Ordered Edge Insight CTS

I went ahead and ordered the Insight CTS this morning after reading BBsliders post on his experience with it, i have some glow shift gauges in my truck for boost trans and pyro, iv'e heard mixed opinions on them and with me moving more into the performance mod world i wanted to be sure im getting accurate readings and for the price of a whole mess of autometer gauges im going to be ahead both cash and space wise with the insight. i also ordered the EAS system expandable EGT probe. im hoping the connector that the glowshift gauge probe was in is compatible with the Edge probe. also that is why i was asking about the coolant temp ports on the block because i would really like to keep my in dash gauges operating in addition to these just as kind of a fail safe so i have two points to reference if needed.

I saw that Edge offers a gauge pod mount for the insight to fit it on the pillar where analog gauges would go and i was wondering if any of you have experience with that. if so i would like to replace that glowshift egt gauge that will be inoperable with the Insight mount.

no the connector wont work as the edge probe is bigger and there is a empty port on the side of the water pump under the thermostat you can use for coolant temp

I think you'll be pretty happy with the Edge. It really offers quite a bit of parameter monitoring, so that is a good thing for sure. As far as the mount, it comes with a pretty nice windshield mount that will sit right where the pillar mount would. I would use it first and see if the money on the pillar mount is worth it. I can put up a photo if you want. Mine sits just perfect for arms reach and viewing while driving. I am not sure about the probe being comaptible woth the glowshift wiring and whether or not you could splice or connect the the probe you have. If you already have the probe for the Glowshift gauges, the Edge probe should just bolt right in place of that probe. Should be an easy 10 minute job since you are already tapped for the current probe. You could always do a fuel pressure gauge in place ofthe EGT gauge. Apparently, our coolant temp gauges are pretty dependable and accurate once you learn what each letter means in relation to the actual temp. For example, the N means about 180* or something like that. Hope it makes sense? Enjoy the Edge! I think its pretty user friendly.

from what i gather both the glowshift port and the Edge port are both tapped into the manifold at 1/8 NPT thread someone want to read this and make sure im reading it right??? would be real nice not to have to tap the manifold again.

Yeah, that is standard with most EGT probes from my experience. You should not have to tap again. Just change it and your good. It will sort of be a plug and play deal.

thats what im hoping for, ive heard some horror stories about tapping the cast manifolds.

fordman67 03-16-2014 12:15 PM

It was no big deal at all when I did mine. Just drilled the proper size before tapping

just out of curiosity what is with people hatin on edge? i have heard the stories of the evolution messing some stuff up but the Insight is nothing more than a digital gauge monitor.... and seems to be really popular...

I am not sure either. I have seen people say stuff, but I just ignore them since the Insight is just a monitor and nothing more.

rodneywar 03-16-2014 07:43 PM

what they are hatin is that the edge seems to fry pcms when you reflash em the insight is the way to go gauge wise makes it easier for me to diag my truck with live data

rodneywar 03-16-2014 07:44 PM

yes sir the probe body is bigger but the connection is still 1/8 npt

thats what i was thinkin, idk why people try and turn others away from the insight, my brother has one on his cummins and it works great. and BBslider enjoys his.

im hoping i can get that probe adapter from the glowshift outta there and put the insight one in, im gonna make sure and put my special anti sieze on it lol

well my insight CTS came in, i forgot to order the longer OBD cable with it since my port is over by the glove box and i want the monitor over by the A pillar so i ordered it straight from edge today saved a few bucks over amazon surprisingly.

we ran it on my buddies 09 mustang today and it has quite a few interesting features, im going to get to spend alot of time setting everything up on the truck it looks like.
