My son found my factory Ford sport steering wheel. He asked if it would fit his truck and if it did could he have it.
I believe in letting the boy be cool, so I said yes he could have it. We put it on today and he's happier than a clam at high tide!
Anyways my question is, how rare are these steering wheels?
I've only run across one every now and then.
I've seen one in a buddies Pinto and he said it was stock. My came from a F150 that was rolled.
3x.. uncommon....bordering on rare.. I understand from the vintage guys that the passenger style wheels are different than the truck version. Btw, that center button-rubbery thing is like $85 to replace. Search on Ebay and they go for $200+ for a cherry steering wheel.
Here's the $16 one I found after keeping my eye out in the JY for 3.5 years.... How elated was I? Well, I did a lil dance (cha-cha) in celebration!
Are these steering wheels really that rare? I've seen 2 or 3 and I don't even go to the salvage yard that much.....is this just artificial ebay hype or do these puppies have real value?
"Value" is based on only as much as someone is willing to pay for it.. the laws of supply and demand and the perception of the market.
It's like paper money (USD)... it's only paper (linen). However, we all value it because we all perceive it as "valuable". For example, would you rather have $1000 as American dollars or the equivalent in Mexican pesos?
If I remember correctly they were only offered for 2 years in the dentside trucks. 78/79. Also most commonly found in the free wheelin and the 79 indy official trucks. However they were offered all other package trucks and broncos for these 2 years as an option. But most people just went with the stock steering wheels. So that is why these are so rare.
Heck, I never thought much of the one I have in my 1980 Flareside, you guys are making me want to take it off and put it on my dentside since the '80 is just an offroad truck.
