Deer Rifle - the new 7mm ultra mag
Bird Gun - Ducks Unlimited 12 Guage ( won it lol )
gohper and other little animals - .17 and .22
pistol - i have one of those lil police guns you see on tv all the time a .32 or .38 or somthin
i also have a .243 .264 .338 a japenese gun for world war a 300 savage a couple more but i would have to go look at them to remember
My favorite sporting rifle of all time, a sporterized 03-A3 Springfield 30-06. In the 60s when I was a kid we guided deer hunters on our ranch. A couple of my Dad's WW2 buddys were converting the 03s as you could buy them out of NRA magazine for around $6.00 then. Now I admit the drop time is a little slow om them and they can be outdone ballistically, but they were just one heck of a good old gun and you could get ammo anywhere. Plus we used to get that Ball ammo for like $1.44 a box at K-Mart well into the 80s which made taget practicing great fun.
I used to shoot a 270, then I borrowed a 7 mag for an antelope hunt. I never shot another one of those kicking 270s again
Best all around gun for Alaska hunting, 338 stainless with composite stock and magnaporting.
Varmit rifle, Ruger M-77V bull barrel 220 swift. I know there is a plethora of cool wildcat rounds in this catagory but anything over 4000 fps and the barrel won't last too long. We washed out the barrels in our 22-250s in just a few hundred rounds at max load.
My personal favorite shotgun of all time would have to be a model 97 Winchester. When I was a kid I loved to shoot fom the hip, just hold the trigger and pump. I've shot better shotguns, so this one is just in there for nostalgic reasons and general coolness.

You think a .270 kicks more than a 7 mag?
I have a Remington Model 710 in .270 caliper and it kicks very little. more or less rises a little bit.
As for the 7 mag that I've shot several times and that my buddy hunts with... It kicks WAY harder than the .270
What brand were you shooting, as I have never heard of a .270 really kicking all that much, and Im curious

The 270 I shot the most was a Model 70 Winchester, Also shot my Dad's old remington 760 pump a good bit( which due to some weird eye relief on the scope would bust my nose open every time I forgot about its ability to do so) and a #1 Ruger a few times. The sole 7 mag was a Remington 700 BDL. I am of course talking about relative kick but my 270 experience would have them kicking on par with much more powerful calibers.
Maybe you should start a thread on the subject and see what other readers think since neither of us has had more than a limited experience with various models of both calibers.
I could have everyday experience with the .270 as i own one. I just wondered what you were shooting.
Come to think of it tho... my Model 710 .270 had that problem at first. The scope popped me in the eye the first tiem I ever shot it... Course it was the first time I had shot a gun w/ a scope in 5 years or so. I might start the thread tho. Im a bit lazy right now tho.
Thanks for the info.
Thompson 54cal muzzle stuffer sporter, converted - browned barrel & buckhorn sights, great accurate grab-n-shoot gun!
My cousinhad a Ruger 41. I had a 357 and our buddy a 44 mag. Overall I liked the 41 best, but it took off about 2/3s of cuz's melon when he decided to check out.
You shouldn't have to worry about that. If you have an old Ruger or S&W without the transfer bar system in place I strongly urge you to send your handgun in to have it retrofitted. It is very dangerous to have one of these guns and not have someone that knows about the skip-a-chamber pattern.
Both companies will put the transfer bar in for free.
