I'm not trying to show others that I'm superior. I was only pointing out you are trying to solve the problem before you even know what the problem is! I still don't understand how offering a solution before the problem is even defined helps anyone other than your ego.

Once he defined what transmission he had I was able to offer a solution. Change the ATF. That's all it needs.

That applies equally to you as well!

Adding incorrect info to a problem is also no helpful, potentially more harmful than not contributing at all. As for myself when it comes to this issue I'll listen to those who've proven their input addresses issues based upon their experience.

I offered the OP a possible fix, you've offered nothing other than to make comments on others. Same as you always do.

Not trying to look superior ? Really ? Change the fluid ? Now how is that somehow a better solution to what I suggested ? Seems to me like just as much of a shot in the dark as what I suggested (in your opinion) You have no more idea as to what causes the problem is than I do.(and you claim to be an engineer that designed these things ?) I based my "fix" on personal experience with the E4OD, I'm not groping in the dark here. If you'd take the time to do a search on this subject, you'd find what I did back when I had my problem and the solution to it that I did. It's a fairly common occurrence with the E4OD once it's got a lot of miles on it.

Jumping in here before the moderator opens it back up

The 4R70W was known for "lockup shudder" - the effect of the lockup clutch slipping at an uneven rate. I had it in my '96 T-bird 4.6L and the '97 Cougar in my sig. A change from the original MERCON to MERCON V solved it in both cases. The '96 t-bird, 10 years later, started doing it again, another fluid change, and it was gone again.

If the OP does indeed have a 4R70W tranny, the first best thing to do is change the fluid with MERCON V.

If that doesn't change anything, than it's possible it's either the lockup solenoid, or the torque converter.

Of course, if your profile is correct and you have a 1999 E350, I thought they had fixed the issues with that lockup shudder by then. Mark would know
