Engine Surge Under Load - ICP?

Engine Surge Under Load - ICP?
Truck has 166k miles.
This past weekend I had a problem that surfaced several times after 20 minutes or so of freeway driving. When I accelerate, it sounds like the engine suddenly revs high, and the truck feels like it wants to run off out from under you, then the engine kind of stumbles a bit before recovering and returning to normal. A couple of times it got bad enough that the check engine light came on, but reset itself after a minute or two and disappeared.
I plugged in AE a couple of times after the trouble but I didn't see any codes. Buzz test also seemed normal.
I haven't experienced trouble starting or with any shorter trips and the trouble only seems to happen only when the truck is hot.
I did a little bit of digging in the archives and found some similar symptoms and some talk about ICP and IPR issues.
My truck has oil inside the ICP connection - and from what I've read this means that its time for a new one.
Do my symptoms sound like something that a bad ICP would explain?
