I have about 10K on the truck now and an irritating periodic problem is making itself noticed - I call it engine apnia.
I've noticed it mostly in town driving and in the morning or after the truck has set for a couple of day's. I'm traveling along at, say, (35MPH) in traffic. When I come to a light/stop and have to sit waiting for a minute the engine idles back down to about 1250. Then, there is a heartbeat's worth of absolute silence, the normal PSD engine sounds are gone, it's as if I turned the key off. After that heartbeat of time there's what sounds like the engine takes a breath, comes back to life and the engine runs back up to the idle sounds again.
The RPM gage on the instrument panel never actually drops off but it sounds as if the engine has, for a moment, gone dead or breathless.
I have it at the dealer (Spradley Ford - Ft Collins) right now but none of the service people can duplicate the condition in traffic. It has happened to me a half dozen times, off and on, and on a couple of occasions several times in one trip across town.
Service rep called tonight and will keep the truck overnight to see if they can duplicate it tomorrow - and that they have reflashed engine with latest from FoMoCo.
Anyone have any ideas or have experienced the same issue? Any SB's bout this?
Welcome to the 6.0L ghost. Check that forum and you'll hear tons of ghost stories. Wait till the truck decides to take off on you at a light and you cannot stop it. Same ghost only angry.
It's probably your Exhaust Backpressure Sensor....
some hav reported this and others (including me) have corrected it temporarily by disconnecting the EGR wire off the top of the engine... check the EGR disconnect thread...
