Hi all,
I'm a couple of months away from replacing my cracked door glass and vent window. Looking for input from both sides, with vent and without. I like the clean look of the solid one-piece, but am partial to the function of vents as I may not have a/c for a loooong time. Any of you have regrets either way?
Thanks for the help before I spend the money.
James
Do you still have the cowl vent? If so go with the solid sides if that's what you like. I like the looks of the solid myself, I do have A/C and no cowl vent. Can't state an opinion as how it all works out until I get a chance to drive it when all this snow goes.
Keep the vent. I like to (besides turning it in to direct air into the cab) use the vent to deflect air away from the window so I can drive with the window open if I don't want a lot of air in the cab. But most important I love to hold onto the window divider bar with my left hand as my arm is on the door with the window down. I have read that FORD purposely designed teh door frame that high so it can be used as an arm rest when the window is down. The 53-55 models was the first to use dummies and ergonomics to design the cab.
Personally , if I want the clean modern look, I drive my modern truck. Open windows and vents blowing air on you, priceless........ Without AC, I want all the air blowing on me that I can get. That vertical window post makes a nice hand hold.
I'm guessing the one piece window would be easier to install and would be quieter. Personally, I like the "old time" look of the window vents combined with the exterior chrome door handles and chrome side mirrors; they don't make them like that any more. Besides, I can push out the vents to direct the cooling air where I want it instead of it going wherever it wants to.
So far you guys have pointed to all the functional things I love about the vents, (especially the hand/arm rest). Yes, I do have the cowl vent. Probably like PanelFord, if I had a/c, I'd go solid, because I'd never have the windows down. Thanks for the input guys.
The number one reason I got rid of mine is because I live in Texas and during the summer the vent will just pour in the super hot air, like a blast furnace. I have AC and I don't like the wind noise when they inevitably leak because of hard rubber or loose latch. But make sure, if you do go ventless, that you get a kit from a really good supplier.
