Hey everyone!

Ive been lurking around the forums for a little bit now. Figured I'd finally chime in. I bought a 1974 F250 highboy last April from Minnesota. I've always wanted one and finally pulled the trigger. It was a good deal I couldn't pass up. Currently I live in the upper peninsula of Michigan and go to school at Michigan Technological University for Mechanical Engineering (graduate in May!)

so back to the truck...

Originally from Wyoming, it was a park ranger truck at Cheyenne Mountain State Park. 49,XXX on the Odometer but who really knows what it is. According to the Vin it came with a 360 and somewhere along the line was swapped out for a 390. Im sure most of you can already tell just by reading the Vin...

VIN# F26YRU05742

Recent upgrades:
Holley Street dominator aluminum intake manifold
Holley 4 barrel carb

The day I bought the truck

A couple others from a drive this past weekend

Welcome.
Yes, a 360 to 390 is apparently the easiest and least costly swap available on these trucks.

Nice pics. Nice truck

Im really starting to like the earlier grills, from seeing all these pics...

F26 = F250 4WD Pickup.

Y = 360 2V

R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant.

U05742 = 1974.

DSO code stamped on 3rd line far right on Warranty Plate decodes to city/state the truck was ordered from.

Welcome to the site and looks like a good project truck! Must have spent at least a couple winters in Minnesota, those wheel openings look pretty familiar! Did you guys have as long of a winter up 'der in da UP as we did here down in the cities?

5th digit of the VIN is the assembly plant code.

OP's truck assembled in San Jose CA (R), says it spent most of its life in WY

If truck was located in MN, probably would have been assembled in Twin Cities (P).

The OP mentioned that he bought it in MN last April... I'm sure it was in Wyoming for a good majority of it's life, but at some point it made it to MN and unfortunately like so many other trucks that even get a glimpse of Minnesota/Michigan salt, it quickly takes out those rear wheel wells.

The rest of the truck looks pretty good though all things considered!

Thanks two fifty! I'm not sure how long the truck spent in MN... I'm assuming at least one or two winters but that's enough to start the rust unfortunately.

Ooooo yeah! Winter still isn't over either. I think we're close to 300" of snow so far this year

Rest of the truck isn't bad. The frame and cab are solid but the bed is the worst part. I figured when I'm done with school maybe I'll have enough funds to fix up the outside some more but for now it's a budget build

Thanks numberdummy. I didn't realize that R was the assembly plant, good information to know. I've been trying to search WY DOT records to see how many people registered the truck and where exactly it was kept out west.
