Bought an 04' F250, looked good but definitely not well maintained. Have replaced tranny temp sensor, thermostat, fuel filters, air filter.... Etc. heads have been redone and new studs installed , Egr delete, new oil cooler, flushed cooling system. Now tonight coming home noticed the brake lights aren't working, all 3 are out... fuses are good. I've heard multifunction switch or brake switch..... If anyone can help it would be appreciated
Thanks
I had this happen in 2 company trucks of that year. I don't remember exactly what the problem was but I do recall it was a part that needed to be replaced in the steering column.
if the high mount brake light is working, the brake pedal mounted switch is working and it is either a blown fuse in the under hood box, or the multifunction switch.
do the rear blinkers and 4 way flashers work? it may be something as simple as bad bulbs.
I'm dealing with a similar problem on F-53 chassis, 2008. Hit brakes, fuse pops. If I only operate 4-ways, no problem. Only happens when I hit brake pedal. Prior to this issue, I spent a couple days with cruise control stopping on its own as though I had hit the brakes but hadn't done so. This cleared up on its own and then the brake issue began. Somehow think these are tied together. Any suggestions?
My issue turned out to be the multi switch in the steering column. Took it out and then apart, cleaned it, lubed it, and reassembled and worked great again.
