Timing Pointer 292

I have a 292 that has been thru a few hands before I got it. It has the timing pointer bolted on and a notch on the crank pulley. So I know this is not right....I did a search and see 292 'pointers' with degrees on it also. Which is correct? Pointer on engine and degrees on crank pulley or visa versa?

My 292 has a pointer on the engine and degree's on the balancer. The big question is if the balancer has slipped with old age giving a false reading.
I've been using a vacuum gauge to set my timing along with a timing light.

I think somewhere along the years they may have had a pointer marked in degrees but I have never seen one or know what year or model used them. I have both types of balancers, two marked in degrees and two with just a raised dot cast on it..

If NumberDummy sees this post possibly he can enlighten us.

2 different timing pointers, the 1956/62 F100/700 original was replaced by another in 1963.

C3TZ-6023-B (replaced B5A-6023-C & B7Q-6023-A) .. Timing Pointer / Obsolete

1956/59 F100/700 272 / 1957/64 F100/700 292 // 1957/63 F750/800 302/332 (Lincoln derived Y blocks) // 1955/63 Ford Passenger Car 272/292/312.

I thought you said you only had a notch on the pulley? Where did you see a pointer with the graduations, I can't find a picture of one.

Jim; Rearcounter and greensales both say they have the B7Q-6023-A! I don't know if that is the single point or graduated pointer, but you could give them a call. I just did a search for the different #'s Bill listed.
Good luck in your quest!

Thank you, I had tried that but entering that number at greensales it came up empty. There is one on Ebay for $39 + shipping which I wouldn't pay, I don't need it that badly. I'll keep my eye out at the junk yards and swap meets.

Timing pointer

When I got the engine it had a arrow pointer and the vibration damper was a 2 pulley with a notch. So I figured one or the other was wrong since neither had degree marks

Its in a 1960 F100 and the manual shows it with the single pulley and degree marks on pulley. *So that's how I'm putting it together. If it runs then I guessed right.

*Does anybody have a 292 that has a arrow pointer and degrees on pulley?

Almost every 292 I have seen has the simple pointer with the degrees on the pulley. I ended up with a couple of extra pulleys with just the single mark, I don't know what year or model it came off of so thats why I want a pointer with marked in degrees.
