Need a computer.Help

Hey guys I'm new to the forum thanks for any help. I have a 93 4x4 with a 5.8 e40d love this truck wished it was not a Sd truck .after I got it I have put 6 map sensors on it in 2yrs then found out it has a lighting computer in it .is this a bad thing or not. It started to backfire after it warmed up and then would act as if it was not getting fuel.what computer do I need for this truck .what to do I'm at a lost .help

What were the symptoms that prompted you to change the MAP sensor 6 times?

Did you ever check for codes? If so, what were they by number and when were they displayed?

Why do you think you have a Lightning PCM (computer)?

If you really do have one from a Lightning it is not the end of the world but it's programming is not optimal for your engine.

It would go dead when you put in drive and rev.and run poorly check the codes don,t remember the numbers change the map run fine for a while then it would to it agin. Check the numbers on the PCM f3tf-12a650-ac. c3p2 .and I talked to the guy I got it from and he said that some one had done work on it before .thanks for the help I'm new at this.

What is your calibration number on the second pillar on the drivers side?

In the photo below the calibration is 4-54E-R10:

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.that num.is 2-54L-R12. f2AE-6EO61-GMF. Thanks for the help. I think the truck came with a 5.0 and the guy put the 5.8 in and it also has a edelbrock performer with hedman headers.

Yes it came with a 5.0L engine and it is a 1992 truck.

Since the truck now has a 5.8L engine you will not be able to source an original version. That also explains why it has a Lightning PCM. You need to check for codes. Post them by number and when they were displayed.

Ok I got a new PCM got it in today run good until I went for a drive down on power bad.thought it might be the spark plugs so put new ones in44 gap . So I checked for codes but my code reader would not read the new PCM what's up with that it's driving me nuts.

Is the PCM new, rebuilt or???
Is this "new" PCM for a 5.0 or 5.8 engine?

It's a rebuild for a 5.0 the guy at the ford place said that it would work when I asked about it been a 5.8.

You need a PCM for a 5.8L engine.

They were mistaken. On Speed Density based vehicles you cannot use a 5.0L PCM on a 5.8L engine or vice versa. Yes it will run, but not very well. You can get away with it on a Mass Air Flow (MAF) based PCM system.

Ok that's what i said to him has well . Call them again today and was told the same thing again.done with that.so what PCM do I need for that 5.8 .i know that the 5.0 PCM will not work.no power at all not the motor I'm used too.lol thanks for the help guys.
