hi all just got a 95 f-150 with 2inch body lift with 33's. now i did post in the tire section that i might be going down to a 31. i know that the truck has oem gears in her. but i was wondering if i was going to keep the 33's what would be a good gear ratio. i don't do much pulling just mainly daily driver in town with some weekend warrior off road. im thinking maybe a 3.73, what yall think
from what the last owner says it has the stock gears in there but hopefully next weekend im going to open up the rear end to know for sure whats in there.
What motor and trans does it have? Knowing the current gear ratio would help a lot too.
I have three OBS trucks. A '92 2wd with a 5.0 and AOD trans, it has 3.55 gears in it with 31" tires and it is absolutely gutless. A '88 4wd with the 5.0 and Mazda 5 speed, it has 3.55 gears in it(according to the door sticker) with 33" tires on and this combination is perfect for the truck. Lastly is a '93 4wd with a 4.9 and Mazda 5 speed, running 33's on it too. It had 3.08 gears in it and it wouldn't get out of its own way, changed them to 3.73's this weekend and it made it a completely different truck.
To see what gears the factory put in it, get the axle code on the door jamb sticker and google it.
well guys just did a massive tune up on the motor runs a lot better but just found out that my spider gears and housing are cracked. so now i need to get a new DIFF. i found a auburn: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/aub-542025/overview/
my gear ratio is 3.31 that what it said on the ring. and now i am thinking about re-gearing the truck but for what gear i don't know
ok guys just got my truck re-geared to a 3.73 front and back. i had a good friend help me but he was so busy and some of the parts that summit sent me was wrong it took up almost 3 weeks to get it done. now the problem now is that the back end is not set up right. im getting a hallowing sound when i am de-accelerating around 35-25mph. we are thinking that it might need to be re shimmed just a little. but now he has no time to adjust it now since he has to work out of state for a month, so have to take it to a shop to have it adjusted right and i was wondering how much would that cost i am thinking maybe 300-400?
