I just finished my front V code swap so I thought I would offer my few learned tricks:
I only had 1 jack and a pair of jackstands, I had no problems.
The trick to getting the back shackle bolt to line up for me was to stick a small chunk of 2x4 in between the shackle and the frame so I was just moving the spring, not trying to get them both to line up.
Most of the other things I did were covered by the various threads on the swap.
My rear is stock springs with RAS that is cranked up to what I will call sloppy quarter. My front springs are brand new and it sits perfectly level front to rear. I think the front springs might come down a hair when they break in, otherwise I plan on a Ranch Hand grill guard in the future which should help.
Thanks to all of the great write-ups on this swap, it went off with no suprises! Total time was about 4 and a half hours.
Fine! Here ya go. The bus is filthy, I hope your happy. I didn't get any passenger side picks because I went to walk on that side and was in snow past my knees. It looks butt down in the pic but it measures out perfectly level.
After a little windshield time I can say that the ride is greatly improved. I was worried that they would be stiff but it rides nicer. I still have the worn out factory shocks on the front.
"Pain heals, chicks dig scars, but glory lasts forever!" Nzirbel, correct?? LOL
Glad you got it done. Makes me really wonder how many more of these trucks would've been sold if they had better springs right out of the factory!
