I could use suggestions on finding an '80 f100 donor cab. too much rust to fix!
I'm buying another '86 F250 right now with an extra cab that I won't be using. I'll be able to take pictures of it at the end of the month if you'd like? It's in great shape, no rust. Willing to let it go for cheap because I won't be in need of it once I pull it off the frame, and trying to sell a cab outright isn't easy. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks for the reply. First, yes I'm interested but I'm new to the rebuild process; by "extra cab" do you mean "extended cab"? If so forget the rest of my questions; I need a regular cab. If it is a regular cab I have a few questions: 1) Where will the cab be located, 2) How can I be sure that your '86 3/4 ton will fit my '80 1/2 ton step side? 3) excluding any shipping what were you thinking about for price? Depending on its location, getting it to me won't be without cost
I'm looking at an '80 F100 donor truck that I won't be using the cab from, I can get pics when I check it out. If it's in any shape, the vin would correctly designate it as a 1980 F100.
hkrisel, you should really tell us where you're located... ideally, you'll go to your User Control Panel and fill it out there so it'll show up in in the top-right corner of all your posts...

Extra cab meaning...it's a cab that I won't need. It is a short cab. I'm in MN (Twin Cities), but I don't think the truck came from here, so no major rust issues to worry about. As far as I know, cabs for all F series trucks from 80-86 will fit on any frame...i.e. if you have a standard cab frame, then a standard cab from an f100 all the way up to a f350 will bolt up. I have heard that if you have an extended cab, it will not fit on a standard cab frame and visa versa. As far as shipping goes, i'm not sure. I'm not sure any carrier would even want to take something that big, because I could put it on pallets for you, but to get it off the truck, you would need a forklift probably, and most shipping companies don't have one attached to the truck. My father has a lift that I will use to get it off with, then I could set it on his car trailer and transport it if need be. What's a fair price for you?
Finding a decent cab is a pain in the neck; I feel your pain. Been looking for a nice one for my '80 for a year, and all the ones around here are ether junk, or they're priced WAY too high... And I absolutely refuse to find a nice truck and cut it up just for the cab.
Make sure you guys get a clear title with these cabs. For instance if you got the 86 cab with a clear title, the easiest thing to do would be to put it on your 80 frame and go down and register it in your name as a 86 using the 86 VIN. Job done.
It can get sticky if you try to use your old 1980 f100 VIN. First off you need proof you legitimately got the spare cab, and you will need to give them the VIN off the new cab. It had better be clear. I have seen a lot of these "free" trucks have a lean on them, and they just "disappear" and the bank is wondering where they are at. They usually get parted out, but they never really go away unless you find a junkyard that will take the cab and not require a title and crush it, or you find a unsuspecting person like the original poster who buys the cab and then gets into a can of worms when he tries to register it.
Don't lower yourself into actually swapping the tags. That's what the thieves do and is why we have all this paperwork mess in the first place.

Also, it does have a clear title. I see that you're in UT. Would you be willing to make the trek up here?
