I just did the disc brake conversion. Changed out the bushings and a lot of the steering components. Got her aligned and I'm really loving the way she drives and stops now.
I was going to put in the power steering box and pump but my daily driver gave up the ghost and will need a new transmission so I had to finish up my 1966 F250 sooner then I had planned.
Anyway, my question is, until I get around to putting in the power steering pump, is there anything I can do to tighten up the steering? I have about three inches of playin the steering wheel in both directions before the wheels start to turn.

Replace the rag joint that is between the column and the gear. Unless you will have to wait a long time, I would wait and do both at the same time. It is a simple task but not very easy.

Thanks John. I'm hoping to get it done soonish but it might still be a month or three. Regardless, I'll need a new rag joint whether I do it now or when I change the steering box. I looked on Dennis Carpenter and didn't see one; I saw a few different sizes on Sacramento Vintage Ford for about $100 each; and I saw some rubber ones on ebay for about $35. When looking for a new rag joint is there anything I should be aware of?

I looked on Carpenter and didn't see one; I saw a few different sizes on Sacramento Vintage Ford for about $100 each; and saw some rubber ones (this is the rubber section only) on ebay for about $35.
Rubber available from auto parts stores, but can be a b!tch to install.

FoMoCo only sold the coupler as an assembly. Auto parts stores sell the round rubber piece, which is riveted to the steel framework. See 3A525 in parts catalog pic.
Carpenter's NOS parts are usually not listed in his repro parts catalogs.

Numberdummy, if I'm reading this correctly. The rubber part only "can be A Bitch to install" so if I buy the whole assembly, is it easier to install?

The 45 that Green Sales has are actually reproductions. They want $25 each plus shipping. Was looking in to options the other day and found out that info.
I think it is just two 1/2" nuts that hold the coupler in place, but I haven't taken mine apart yet. Probably this weekend I'll get to it. I loosened the nuts by holding the "bolt", if you will, on the opposite side. Otherwise it turned the coupler and started moving the tires in that direction.
