Hi everyone.
I am new here and I am hoping that some good soul will have an answer for me. My van is not running well. When I first start it in the morning, it runs fine for about 2 miles. Then something happens and id does not have power, as it gets to shifting time it starts producing a sound as if one is blowing air between lips, pfrrrr. Then it shifts and after a while it stops doing that sounds. But it lacks power so there is not much acceleration. The MPG has dropped from some 14.5MPG to 11.5 MPG. I changed the MAP sensor. The problem codes that I read with a scanner are: 179, 334.
179 means that it's running too rich.
334 is telling me to replace EVP sensor.
Could the EVP sensor cause all of the symptoms described above?
The engine starts and idles fine, no sputtering, no loping just nice smooth idle.
The blockage might contract as it cools and expand with heat.
If you shut off the engine then immediately restart, does it run well for another 2 miles? If not, how long does it have to sit to get another smooth 2 miles?
To check the theory of clogged CAT I disconnected the temp. sensor and the engine runs fine. Just like it runs when it's cold. Then I replaced the O2 sensor and things improved. It still does the sound pfrrr, just before shifting, but it stops doing it when I press the gas pedal to the floor. Also I checked the fuel pressure, it's 60psi and it drops to 52 when I run the engine, like it should.
Anybody? Any ideas?
