1987 E-150 cold running problem

We have a 1987 E-150 convertion van, She starts fine, and runs fine after about 2 miles, but for that first few miles all I can do is idle down the road, If I give her gas the engine cuts out, but doesn't stall, after idleing down the road for a few minuets she runs fine. There is only 68000 miles on her, beautiful shape, never seen a winter, has new cap, rotor, wires, plugs, O2 sensor. any ideas what can be causing this.

5.0 liter, automatic W/overdrive.

thank, Jim S.

Is it Fuel Injected? I would suspect a bad IAC Valve or TPS Sensor. They both have to do with cold idle and curb idle. JMO. Good Luck

I would say that most likely the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor bad.
This sensor has two wires on it and is wired to the EEC Computer.

Unlike the Temperature Sender sensor that has one wire on it and is wired to the gauge.
