Just put the magnaflow muffler on my 05 f250 and WOW! what a difference that made. Haven't done the intake kit yet but planning on it. I'm trying to get the best performance and mileage out of this truck and I'm just wondering what everyone has done to upgrade perf on theirs, like plugs? Coils? Anything. And yes, I know I've got a v10, I'm not going to get 20mpg, and that's not what I'm looking for. I know I've got a gas guzzler, passes everything but the pump. Just lookin for suggestions.
The model number is 12289-ss. Excellent sound. Increased get up n go. Doesn't seem like I have to put my foot down on the accelerator to get er moving.
Save the money from buying an intake. The best gains will be from a 5star tune and gears. Most have upgraded to the 4.30's or better with stock tires and said its noticebly better especially for towing. My next mod engine wise will be a 5star tune as well.

Reason: bad information
unless I am mistaken the 3v v10's dont need the y pipe, they have a pretty good exhaust stock, the intake is plenty good too you wont gain anything but noise with a CAI, my 09 3v v10 came with a magnaflow muffler when I bought it, the 5 star tune even the 87 octane perf/tow tune makes the truck feel like it lost 2000 lbs and throttle response is like having a throttle cable and you get your choice of 5 different tunes on your programmer. The higher octane tunes even more power, I dont think you will find anyone who bought 5 star tunes that are not totally satisfied.
Get tuning from Mike at 5 star. That is the most bang for the buck. If you have 3:73 gears, then get 4:30's especially if you tow. Those two upgrades will turn a 3v V10 into a monster. Also Mike can custom tune to YOUR needs so call him and tell him what you use your truck for.
I got the tuner and y-pipe on my 2v V-10 and I got great results. After installing the y-pipe, I ran the truck in econo tune for months before trying the performance tune. I have not taken it out of that tune since and I won't. The difference between the stock tune with y-pipe and performance tune was WELL worth the money. Especially when the ECM goes into open loop for air/fuel mixture. Its like another engine kicks in. Even the transmission shifts better with shift strategies available on the tuner. And it is a different truck to tow and haul with. It does it so much easier.
Now, I do not get the gas mileage I used to because it is so much fun to drive and hard to keep my foot out of the throttle.
I envy those that have the 3-valve engines with the tuner.
The stock intake is more than enough for these motors so save your money there. A three valve motor doesn't need the y-pipe mod and a tuner and gears is the best mod on a three valve motor. Now a two valve is a different story, I have a superchip and five star custom tunes X3 on my 5.4 and they do nothing but made my wallet lighter. Best thing I have done is 4.30 gears and a TransGo HD shift kit
I agree with the 2 others with 2v 5.4s. The 5 star tunes just dont do enough to the truck on a 2v to justify the expense. The y-pipe mod was the only thing on that truck i did where i said "wow, i can actually feel a difference"
