E-brake petal interchange
I was going to the local salvage yard, and I had a friend ask me to find him a new e-brake petal assembly for his 1994 E150, because his was not staying engaged anymore. ( I wish he would have given me more info, but oh well.)
The closest I could find him was off of a 1997 E150 which had the press the petal to release the brake feature. The salvage yard interchange didn't cover ebrake petals, so for $10, I figured it was worth a shot.
The petals actually have the same bolt pattern.
To make a long story short, if I would have gotten the cable that was attached to the 97 petal and then grabbed the adjuster, my friend would have been happier. I wasn't around for the reassembly.
He said the 94 had a self tensioner in the petal assembly (correct?), and since the 97 didn't, he had to build one.
Now the emergency brake doesn't release on is own now, and everyone is happy.
I'd think there would be some compatibility due the bodies being of the same generation, post '91. Never having serviced or replaced the E-brake pedal assembly I would have been concerned with cable ends fitting etc---seems that's not the issue though.
Maybe someone down the road will find this info useful----good to know!
