I have a 9th generation1997 f250 HD 5.8L v8 351w 2x4 Dana 80 rear end Automatic transmission regular cab 8ft bed. For some reason when I start my truck it will run fine for about 2-3seconds, then it will start jumping around and making sounds like it's only running on 4cyl. It will do this for about 5-10seconds, then it will run just fine but some times it gets really bad to the point where it goes past those 10seconds and I got to pump the gas pedal just to get it to run right. Now Iv checked my battery and the date says January 2003 so I put a volt meter on it with the truck off and it read 12.540volts, a new battery always reads 12.600 volts, so I know I got juice to start the truck. When I started it the other day and it did it's jump around thing I noticed the battery gauge jumps up and down but the battery is fine so is it the alternator, have not tested it yet I'll do that soon but some people have been telling me it has a miss fire, when It first occurred I believe I had a bad fuel injector. I still think it's an injector or alternator problem. Any body ever had or heard of this problem before and what I can do to fix it?????? it's starting to get really bad!
When're the last time you did changed the cap and rotor? Plug wires and spark plugs...... I had a 1997 F250 Heavy Duty 5.8 E4OD reg cab long bed 4x4, bought it from the original owner with only 34k on it. Truck was bone stock original, about a year later in the mornings usually it would run rough like it was missing so I changed the fuel filter that didn't help. So after a week or so I just said let me check the distributor and sure enough the cap and rotor were all burnt. Went to Napa and got a MSD cap and rotor it's all they had and truck ran beautiful until I bought my F350 in 2004.
