1967 deluxe fresh air heater is 1967 only, has 3 ***** that attach to cables.

Two of these ***** were only furnished with the cables.

Temperature control cable (18518) attaches to the heater water valve that is spliced into the inlet to heater core heater hose. When pulled, opens the valve.

Fresh air cable (18552) attaches to lever on heater box, when pulled, allows outside air to enter.

The **** (17513) of the heater blower switch/cable (18578) was available by itself.

Here is the only parts catalog pic that shows these ***** and cables.

Most likely it is actually hooked up, and that is why it won't move. Probably, your heater control valve is stuck.

Open the hood, locate your heater hoses on the passenger side, black rubber hoses a bit more than an inch in diameter.

In one of these hoses will be a valve that your cable is connected to. Pop off the end of the cable from the valve, then try your in-cab handle again.

If it is moving freely, good news, the cable works.

Unfortunately, bad news, you need a new heater control valve.

Good news again, the new valve is usually under $20 from your local parts store.

Hope this helps. I have 2 F250's and an F100...all 3 heater control valves needed to be replaced.

The problem is with the fracatta heater valve, not the cable.

The valve is notorious for getting stuck in the closed, open or partially open positions.

If you still have a metal valve, squirt some WD40 or PB blaster on it. I then keep it oiled with some light oil. Even with minimal use, they rust up and stick. Some oil on the shaft keeps it free.

Could be but with out seeing it would you bet your live on it..

I had the same type of problem with mine, although a little different.
Lubed the wire cable worked it back & fourth and bingo still working great.

Loosen cable from water valve and work cable if it is ez to works easy then,
I'll be eating crow for dinner

Probably.

As a back (shop) parts guy, I passed out many of these valves to mechanics without seeing the originals.

In 1981, replaced the puppy in my '65, it was stuck closed.

It's still available from Ford, even though it was last used in 1972...that should tell you it's been a notorious POS since day one.

80-85% of automakers profit comes from parts sales. If parts don't fail, no profit for automakers.

I think you're both right. I bet ya I've sold more valves than cables prolly at least 25:1. But a good shot of spray penetrating lube would be a good idea. The full length of the cable.

Yeah when did mine with w-d40 remove the whole dash unit hung it one end on a wire let he lube run all the way through out the other end. Then work the levers giving it other shot wd-40 lube.Minds being working good ever since. I have replaced my w-valve with newer ones, I get at PnP so always stays in good condition.

But Jeff just incase I'm wrong this time, I'm heading out for some type fowl tenderizer just in case it's not road kill that would be all soften by the time I get it..
ps
I have seen them now make from some type of plastic now..
