I have a 302 with 2 bbl. carb and would like to know if there is more than one location on the engine where I can read engine coolant temperature?
I need a dash gage reading & electric fan switch location.
Thanks, Tractorman Bill
Usually the sensor for the gauge (and EEC, if your engine is computer controlled) is located at the water outlet on the intake manifold. This is about the hottest place for the coolant, as it's just leaving the engine after picking up all the heat from the heads.
There's usually a boss at that location that provides enough meat in the manifold to support drilling and tapping a hole for a sensor, and usually done at the factory. For the EEC engines, there is a second port for the computer's sensor nearby. Again, there is a boss for that as well. I'm not sure if there are other places where you can drill into a water passage. You can check the intake manifold that you're working with, but I'm almost certain that it will have a tapped hole in the right place.
Thanks and I will check some more.
I need a port for the electric fan switch and a port for the original 6V. dash gauge sending unit unless I try to "T" which I would rather not do.
Thanks,
Tractorman Bill
