Guess this is a bad thought, but I can remember when I was young how the highway dept treated the dirt and gravel roads in western NC with old oil to hold down the dust. Times have changed. Also own a 56 chevy belair - think a kid now could find the gas fill behind the taillight?

I may be wrong (it's happened before), but I though there was a Federal regulation that said any service garage that did oil changes was required to accept oil brought in by a customer at no charge. Maybe just Florida? Or did I just dream it?

Not sure about that one. I'm not certain how any government can justify making one man responsible for another man's refuse. But, we're a bit different country than we were. That said, I dream stuff like that all the time. Just last night, I dreamt a dozen midgets came to my house and installed my wiring harness and lubed the entire chassis...

I'm pretty sure that was a dream since there is a mound of spaghetti in my living room.

Kind of like making one man responsible for another man's health insurance.

I don't think that with our government these isn't much that isn't regulated.

I know here it is law for facilities to accept used oil and filters. It helps keep people from dumping it down the drain which causes a much bigger problem. I've heard too many stories of people parking over a manhole cover and draining the oil. One liter of oil can contaminate one million liters of water.

As far as modern shops not working on older vehicles. It's not really a matter of service information, as any real shop has a subscription to a service information provider. Nearly everyone of those as readily available info back to the 60's and for older stuff you either e-mail or phone for the info.

The vehicles aren't daunting to the shop, quite frankly most times its the owner of the vehicle is why you don't want to touch it. The stories I can tell...

Well Doc, I can't say it backfired but I went to NAPA to grab some odds and ends and happen to ask for an oil filter for Luci... They had one in stock.
