I need someone who has access to a 1970 Ford Mustang speedometer and or speedometer cable with the threaded connection at the back of the speedo that fits the 4 spd Toploader used in the 302/351 V8
The Trans is identified as a RUG AV - You must also have access to a 48-52 F1 - F3 speedometer/speedometer cable
Here is what I need to find out - Will the speedometer cable from the above 70 mustang screw into the back of the F1 - F3 speedometer or will the speedometer cable from the F1 - F3 screw into the back of the Mustang speedometer
There are two connections for the 70 stang speedo - one is the screw on, the other is a plastic snap on - I need the screw on
Confusing? - It's got my stuff wrapped around the driveshaft.
A few more bits of info - The trans end of the Mustans cable is the push-in style with the metal hold down clamp
The mustang cable attaches to the passenger side ot the trans tailshaft
The speedo cable must not be for the overdrive trans nor should be for the 351 4v
The speedo cable on 69-70 mustangs does NOT screw onto the speedo, it is a plastic collar that pushes onto the smooth nipple on the back of the speedo. I have three of these and know first hand.
The '68 and earlier uses the screw-on style from everything I remember or have seen but the '70 dash is the same style speedo as the '69. I never have seen a screw-on one past '68 that was stock.

Thanks for the reply - I've found references to three different cables/connections for the 70 Mustang 302/351 - Two vague screw on and mostly the push on style
I'll try and expand my search parameters
Dick, I don't know if this will help you or not, but this guy on ebay has a speedo cable with the screw on speedo end and the push in trans end. Take a look and see what you think. It might give you some ideas.
Thanks everyone - Going through all the information that you provided I was able to track down a speedometer cable that will work on Black Bettie - It's a 83" cable for a Fairlane - I did some swaging on the ratios and I bought a set of 4 driven gears that should be able to work to come with a best fit cable and drive
