I need to do my roof also. No birds just the south Texas sun. I was wondering if my arms were long enough to spray the middle. It looks like with scaffolds it is not not too bad.

@racin ; so do you mean to tell me that you actually live in Australia?

Fortunately My cousin who painted it has arms like an orangutan.

After removing the drivers door trim I found the previous owner had butchered the door to fit 8 inch speakers, so the 5 1/2 inchers I had to fit were just going to fall through the hole.

After a quick test and inspection, the no name speakers got the nod.
Ran new speaker wires and a dedicated fused wire from the batterywired her up. The wire for ignition power did not work(yellow/black), so it has full time power. Just have to remember to turn it off when I leave.

The stereo works well but certainly isn't as loud as it would be in my Datsun ute.Bit of a size difference.
Now all I have to do is pull my finger out and fit the starter so I can listen to tunes on the road instead of having the worlds biggest back yard ornament,

Cheers
Mark
Don't think I've seen 8"ers stuck in a door before, at least it does look like it's still healthy.

That Sony looks good there, clean install.

So I manned up today and crawled in the dirt to change the starter. Changed out the old Mitsubishi style for the new Denso style.
Must say if I were to do it again I would grind a bit of the webbing away on the denso for the top bolt. even with the wobbly extension could not get good purchase on it, hope the top bolt is tight enough.

This is what came out.

Poor thing took a flogging when I first fitted the motor.

After bleeding the injectors, because it hadn't started in a couple of months, the old girl started right up. It only takes about half a crank the new one spins so fast.

I stood on the tool box in the bed and lay down chest on the roof. Worked just fine to reach everywhere. But I do have very long arms.

Haven't seen you around in a while mate.
These ambulances are all being phased out now, you might see one or two in a country town. They are mostly using the euro style vans now.

Had a bit of a score. When buying the ambo back the mate of the bloke had some of these.

These usually go for around 800 bucks if you can find them, I got them for $150. I know still sounds expensive but that's what your dealing with in Aus.

So, before

And after

Tadah!

My health's not the best these days, had to take a brake from doing more than the necessities for a while.

Those Euro-vans have been popping up around here too, mostly as cargo/delivery vehicles.

Nice score on the headlights too, I've heard of those conversion pieces, but I think that's the first time I've seen them.

Mate, that's no good. Just spent 4 days in the hospital myself unexpectedly. Hope you're on the mend.

So its been a while since I've been on here. Life has been mad. Renovated and sold our house, packed all our crap in a trailer I bought. After that I got the Effie licensed which is no small feat in West Aus on an imported car. After that I had to modify it then drive across Australia to our new home in Tasmania(the island on the bottom). Pretty burnt out. Heres some pictures.

The day I finally got it licensed.

The day after I got it licensed.

The plan!?

The finished product.

A week later just before going across the Nullarbore. A bit over loaded. Had about 4-5 ton on board which made the hills pretty slow being N/A.

The trip was pretty hard. The Effie didn't over heat at all but I had 2 blowouts on the trailer and 1 on the rear of the Effie because of the weight we were carrying. The front tank was a pain to fill because if the modified filler hose so it was used sparingly.
One night I was too slow on flipping between tanks and I stalled in the middle of the desert which ws a blessing. Because when I pulled over to reprime the fuel system I found a hissing noise. Turned out there was a hole in the top radiator hose, the guage hadn't moved. Lesson to put in aftermarket guage. After hacking off the end of the hose and refitting and refilling with the water we had I reprimed the fuel system and heard liquid running. I thought it was the cooling system but it turned out to be a ruptured hose on the fuel return line system. Fixed that, thank goodness I was smart enough to throw in spare bits of hose and bolts and clamps etc.
It got loads better mileage after that.

With about 2000km to go we set off one morning and found it didn't want to go into 3rd. Took a few kilometers until it warmed up and it would go in but then it would slip like a B*tch. I had to baby it into 3rd and manually shift it, I kept it in second going through towns.

After getting off the fairy in Tasmania, I had about 120km to get to my new property. No problem. Problem, Tasmania has a lot more hills and mountains than the rest of my trip.
5 km from our new property I was crawling up a hill/mountain when it just wouldn't go any more. Slippage in all gears and trans over heating badly. I couldn't pull off the road because of the steep shoulder. I had a look underneath and it hadn't dumped its guts out so I waited about 10 minutes, put it in low range. It made it to the crest and I shifted into hi-2 on the fly and didn't stop until I rolled up the drive.

Auto rebuild is now on the cards. Sorry about the long post, I haven't had the internet for a while.
Cheers
