Thanks guys. I'm going to fire it up in the morning after the oil change. I'm hoping nothing leaks. Dang class all day today kinda put a crimp in my "getting crap done" agenda.
Not sure about the rear end. I can look tomorrow. I put a universal joint in it when I first got it and really didn't pay it much attention.
By the way, my Chilton's manual will be here next week so maybe next time I can give advice instead of get it.
Paul,
What kind of mileage are you getting with that big block? And how is the performance? One of the most overlooked performance upgrades is the diff. gearing. Changing a gear ratio can make a big performance gain. Ever consider a change? 9" is so easy to swap out and almost every yard in the country is now crushing cars with diff's in the vehicles and all but forgotten.

It's hard to say exactly what my mileage has been. My speedo doesn't work yet. It's one of the things that is on the list to get working. I can tell you it's not great though. Judging by my normal route to work and school vs. the fuel I have been using I would guess I get around 10-15 mpg. Probably closer to 10. It's really tough to say for sure.
I have considered a gear change just to lower the revs at cruising speed. Maybe just one or two ratios though. I don't want to loose the bottom end performance and I don't drive the big roads any more than necessary. Mostly just local two lanes.
I think the truck is dependable now but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
You know, it's a good thing I didn't wait on my book to get here. I ordered a used one on eBay on the last day of Febraury. March the 1st it was mailed from Indianapolis. It then went to Warrendale PA and to Greensboro NC from there. It arrived in Greensboro on the 4th. I should have gotten it on the 5th but didn't. I still don't have it so I used the tracking number issued by the USPS to see where it was. Where is it you ask?
Paul, 10 to 12 miles to the gal is right on average for a big block. If you change the gear ratio you might make the mileage worse. I have owned many FE blocks in my life and with out fuel injection this mileage is not bad. I don't remember did you say what carb. you have on this engine? Do you have an rv cam?

I don't know anything about the cam in the engine. Sounds stock to me but who knows. As for the carb, it's a Holley 650 Double Pumper with mechanical secondaries.
I figured the fuel milage was pretty close to par so long as I don't try to floorboard it.
