Distortion

I have a '94 F150 and after putting in my sub and amp (kicker CompVR 10", 150.4 amp 4-way), my 4 Sony Explod 6" (w/ outside mounted tweeter) speakers can't handle the base that is being put through them. I can't turn off the base to the speakers because that would turn off the base to the sub. So, I can either leave the volume down and have no distortion and not get the full effect of the sub, or turn it up and have a little bit of distortion.
I know there must be a way to just run high's and mid's through the speakers, but is that possible?

It sounds good and everything, it just distorts when I turn it up. I was thinking about getting some 6x9's and mounting them behind the seat in boxes. Maybe panasonic or Kappa's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

is it the stock radio? u powering the speakers through the CD player or amp? what kinda sub amp?
if not u would need some bass blockers, they are simply inline crossovers built to block out the lower frequencys. i seen them in the Crotchfield magizine...

There is you can switch it on low/mid/high. It's on low right now which is exactly what you need, but the base through the speakers still gets distorted. So base blockers. What do they look like and are they hard to install?

Base blockers are very easy to install. They wire in-line with your speaker wires BEFORE the get to your speaker.
The speaker wires coming from your head unit will run to the doors, or wherever you have them located. Just solder or crimp the bassblockers inline with the speaker wires and then connect the wires to the speaker. Try to get bass blockers as close to 100hz as possible. 200hz blockers dont let your speakers play enough of the low frequencies in my opinion.

If you have a 4 channel amp, why arent you running your speakers thru it? If you have a sony HU 50x4 youre getting what 20vrms? Thats prolly where your distortion is coming from. Does your HU have preamp outputs?

preamp outputs? My brother would know more about this than me, but should I get a new HU? It probably does but I'm not sure. I'm not running my speakers through my amp, because I haven't got it hooked up like that. The amp is just running the sub.

Should I run my rear speakers through my amp? and leave the front ones to the HU?

What's 20 VRMS? Sorry I don't know my stuff, but this is all new to me. I hope you guys can help me.

is the amp a 2 channel or 4 channel (channel means number of speaker hook ups)...the term 20vrms means constant power it receives.

my amp is a 4 channel, so what speakers should I run through the amp? The front or the rear?

Hard to follow, but if your amp has a built in crossover then you really shouldn't need to do anything but select Low pass to your sub from the amp. The other speakers from you deck should be controlled without effecting the sound to the subs. On my system I have my bass at "0" and the treble to 6. Becasue of the amp crossover, it doesnt effect the subs "too" much. I say "too" much because I know that I am filtering mostly treble from the deck.

On another note iy you get a good electronic crossover, you can adjust your small speakers anyway you want and leave the subs to the crossover
