i have an 88 f150 4x4 with a 302. sometimes it will idle at like 3000 rpms it doesnt do it all the time sometimes its fine others its not i have replaced the iac. cleaned everything. the only way to get it to idle down is to stomp it to the floor and let off. there isnt anything sticking the only codes i get are egr b/c its unhooked. ive messed with it for about a month cant find any vaccuum leaks anywhere. im stumped
Are you absoulutely positively positive your throttle valve isn't sticking slightly open?
Have you checked your throttle position sensor lately? If you read the signal line from it when your at high rpm and no throttle, it should be .9 to 1.0 volts. Be CAREFUL when you read it, don't short anything out. Also check the reference voltage at the sensor, should be 5.0 to 5.1 volts.
Something IS sticking, and it's probably the gas pedal, its cable, the cruise cable, or the throttle shaft/plates. Get it to stick, then check each one and see which is hung up.
Note also that with the egr disconnected (I'm assuming the vacuum line is pulled off), the ecm will go into fault mode, using preset values, which will make the truck run like crap.
i am pretty that nothing is sticking ive try tryed to close the throttle under the hood when it does it it wont move. when it idles right its at about 700. when its doing it i can turn the key off goin down the road and it runs fine when i turn it back on. it runs the same way with it hooked up

i replaced the tps today still did the same thing. pulled the hoses off and stuck my hands over the throttle body to make sure there wasnt a big vaccuum leak it died when i plugged them so that pretty much rules that out. I also put on a new throttle cable. still the same. pulled the codes again now its running lean
Did you run a KOER test, and if so, was the engine idle high when you ran the test? For meaningful results the engine would have to be experiencing the problem when the test was run.
