Idling Issues
For the past 3 months I have been noticing an idling problem with Ranger. I have a 1996 3.0 4x4 extended cab Ranger that is still in excellent shape. I have been noticing that when I go to start the truck sometimes it will not idle correctly. This issue is also intermittent and seems to be enhanced the colder it gets outside. When running correctly it firsts idles at 2 grand and then works it's way done to about 1 grand when it starts warming up. When it is having issues idling it will not go above 1 grand. Sometimes I have drive it for a while before it starts idling correctly. Please give somewhere to start so I can fix this problem. It's getting annoying when it's -20 degrees and I have sit in the truck to keep it running.
Thanks
Rob
Do a complete tune-up :-)
check for codes on a good scan tool, because a good scan tool it can show senors that are weak like the o2 senor/s. replace the o2 senor/s about 85, miles, clean or replace the MAF, ICA, ITA, ECT senors, clean thougherly the throttle body, check all vacuum lines including brake booster line & the check valve, replace rubber old lines & vacuum stops. check wiring throughout for rubbing wear, clean electrical connections, replace filters, clean pcv valve, replace spark plugs and wiring, do a compression check, change auto. fluid, clean both the radiator & tran cooler, buy a good fuel injector cleaner, use ever 3000 miles
