torque and wankel in the same sentence? they sure can RPM pretty well, though. when I was in long beach in the early 90's, I saw a Datsun B210 with a wankel in it, WOW!! Was told it was an 11 sec car
'had an 85 RX-7. It was really fun above 4,000 RPM. The first generation needed a turbo to pick up the bottom end. The mid-90s twin turbo is/was kick azz... in fact, look for those to be collectible in the near future.
Finally popped a head gasket last summer. Pulled it off, looks brand new inside even at 42 yrs old. No ridge on the cylinder at all. Uses no oil. Good runnin' Kohler.
I have a 60's JD 140 with a 14hp single cylinder Kohler that purrs like a kitten.
Mine still has the balance gears in it. Heard all the horror stories of them blowing up. I think I can hear mine rattl'n away. Been contemplating pulling it down and removing them like a lot of people tell me.
I just don't run it up full speed, though I hear that is bad for it(air flow from cooling fan). I've had it 6? yrs and no problems.
