torque and wankel in the same sentence? 
they sure can RPM pretty well, though. 
when I was in long beach in the early 90's, I saw a Datsun B210 with a wankel in it, WOW!! Was told it was an 11 sec car

'had an 85 RX-7. It was really fun above 4,000 RPM. The first generation needed a turbo to pick up the bottom end. The mid-90s twin turbo is/was kick azz... in fact, look for those to be collectible in the near future.

Mine still has the balance gears in it. Heard all the horror stories of them blowing up. I think I can hear mine rattl'n away. Been contemplating pulling it down and removing them like a lot of people tell me.
I just don't run it up full speed, though I hear that is bad for it(air flow from cooling fan). I've had it 6? yrs and no problems.
