I have been looking for a LH FE engine perch that clears the power steering gear box; do not want to go the notch with torch or grind route. The conversion is being done on a 1966 F100 2WD. Have not been able to locate one in the local yards. Anybody know where one could be found?
I have been looking for any power steering equipped F100 and F150 with an FE engine at the yards (with the ford box), but no luck. Well, actually I did find the part at one yard on two different trucks, but the fellow would not sell separately, would only sell if I purchased the entire 360 engine.
Not sure if the perch is the same for the small block, I have been passing those by because I assumed they were different.
Has anyone posted a "WANTED" ad in the parts for sale section of the forum? If so, did you have any luck?
John,
I have completed power disc brake conversions on both trucks and the power steering conversion on one of the trucks without using a donor; I simply do not have the room or facilities to accommodate another entire truck at our house. I realize that is the most efficient way to go, but it is not a possible route for everyone.
Gavin, Why do you have to have it at your home? I say that you don't. I say that one can make a plan if he has trucks than need PS & PB upgrades. One can rent a space somewhere for a month, get some help and pull the deal off. You are on here asking for help finding a ds FE perch because you felt you had a better plan, and your plan wasn't complete with all parts.
I am not trying to make you look or feel bad, but the guys that buy their donors don't have your problem.
Some yard owners will sell you a donor and let you leave it on their lot, pull your parts there, and take your carcus off your hands in the end. You don't have to take a donor home.

John,
I have read many of your posts and know you are a champion of the donor truck route; however I am not able to skin the cat that way. I travel extensively for work, am on location for months at a time, and have short little windows to get things done on the trucks (along with all the other things that need to be done at home). I know my plan is not "better", in fact I realize how inefficient it is. I do not feel bad nor do I care if I "look" bad. Your comments, advice, and knowledge have been and will continue to be appreciated. Maybe I will just pack a small cache of tools and hit a yard or two wherever I am and find that last little piece (the LH perch) to complete the conversion. The problem with that is Sunday is my only day off when working.
FWIW, I just removed a 352 from a '65 F100 with PS (Ford box dealer added). It had the normal left engine perch, no notch or anything. Have you tried your original perch?
The perches seem to be the same for a six as well.....I simply moved them to the forward holes and dropped the six right in.
Wow, yall are being pretty harsh on this guy. I'm in the same boat here in North Dakota with no pick n pulls with the parts needed. I need a lh perch and hopefully will find one in Texas when I move my truck down there next month. So Becky if I find 2 I will help you out.
Get the later design Saginaw and stay away from the early model Bendix. Upgrade also to the 69-76 motor support. Fit it to make sure it works, remove the box and send it off to have the lower housing machined for a bearing and seal. DO THIS and you will never have a problem with it in the future. I'll guarantee if you don't have it machined for a bearing now, you will be replacing the seal later down the road. Reason the seal start leaking is because the stock boxes are not machined for a bearing which puts stress on the seal. JMO
Other members here will give you the name and address of where you can bet it machined.
I know Becky stated in his (?) first post that he did not want to notch his non-P/S mount to acccommodate his new Ford/Saginaw P/S box, and I'm sure he has his reasons, but I notched mine and it works fine without all the aggro of trying to find the scarce modified later mount. For those of you who aren't purists, this can be quite a satisfactory and easy alternative. For what it's worth.
