swapping transmission question.

I have a 89 4X4 with a 300-I6 and an NP-435. I would like to change the transmission over to an automatic preferably with overdrive with hopes of eventually changing the engine to a v-8. What would be a good transmission that would bolt up to my engine and transfer case, but would allow me to swap to a V-8 latter? Thanks

I believe that the inline 6 shares the SB Ford bolt pattern... So an AOD would work fine..

So would any automatic tranny bolt up to my transfer case?

any fullsize tranny up to 1996 will bolt up to any fullsize tcase up to 1996. Ford made it nice and easy.
