I just bought some JL TR-650CXI's and they are hands down the worst sounding speakers I have ever heard, including Sony Xplodes. Yes the radio is tuned.
I also have two 6x9 Hertz's, hooked up behind my seat, and they sound amazing. The Hertz's are hooked up to a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X397 Stereo.
I need two 6.5"s to go back into my doors. I'm having trouble finding speakers that will go into the speaker hole without using spacers.
I know eventually I'm hooking up a 8" shallow mount Kicker Subwoofer along with a Kicker amplifier. But I need new doors speakers before I get a $1000 sub and amp. I'm going to set it up so people hear my highs mids and lows
I HAVE A IDEA OF WHAT DOOR SPEAKERS TO USE BUT I WANT SOME OTHER OPINIONS
You have to pay attention when looking at speakers for these trucks. Crutchfield is good about this. Even then though, do some research into any speakers that you might be interested in. The issue with these trucks is that while they are listed as 6.5" speakers, the cutout diameter is only about 5.5". When I installed my Focal's I had to enlarge the cutout's to 6" in diameter.
I have polks and I love them. I have a 10" alpine type e behind the seat and some junk pioneers in the back that I'll be replacing with some more polks when I get the chance.
i've got stock speakers and two 10 inch alpine e's behind the seat with an RE Audio DTS 1000.1 1600 watt amp (sadly discontinued) and obviously have more bass than mids and highs, but i only have more bass when the radio is turned above half way, most radios have a loudness feature that puts the highs mids and lows in proportion in the low volumes. amazingly the crappy old 2g alternator has only died once (had to put a new motorcraft 2g in, unfortunately didnt have time to wait for the 3g to get delivered) and keeps up unless its at idle with the lights on
I didn't even wanna mess with them wimpy stock size speakers... you can put 6x9's in the front doors if you own a tape measure, sawzall, dremel, and don't ever want to go back to stock.
