The Irony.......
Paid $2,700 w/ 237K miles on the OD. Beat up, had a ton of electrical gremlins, and was ugly. Owned it for almost three years.
Had a coolant leak, bad coil plug, and a bad blinker switch (multifunction control or what ever it's called.)
I probably didn't spend more than $600 fixing that truck to run perfectly.
Granted it got at best 6.5 mpg not towing...
Every penny I spent on that truck pissed me off to no end. Even though in the back of my mind I knew that I had still only invested less than $4K total into it.
I never truly trusted that truck to not leave me stranded, even though it never did.(Although it wasn't a daily driver.)
New truck: 2006 F350 SD 6.0...
Paid $18K with 76K miles on the OD. Gorgeous. Paint is probably an 8/10, interior is a 9/10.
Daily driver...
Within the first couple of months owning it, even though from what I would consider a superficial reason(fuel gelling), it has left me stranded twice, and now the FICM is going out quick, had a hard time starting this morning. Seems to be deteriorating progressively. Ordering that today.
I have dumped a ton of money into it already by purchasing the SCT, EXHAUST, and SGII, multiple sets of fuel filters (ugh!) and have done so with a smile every time.
Even though it is acting the way it is, I wouldn't hesitate to take off cross country at any time. ....well, once my FICM is replaced anyway.

Now with all that said, the damn thing needs to chill out on the wallet for a while. I have tags due and need to catch my breath!! And I'm praying that I don't have to face injector hell anytime soon. lol...

Dont worry when u get past the COLD season & replace the FICM you should be good, in fact for some reason I had to have ED rebuild my FICM a few months after I bought it & over 2.5 years later that FICM has been the only part that has failed on my 6.0 everything else has been Mod's I wanted to do.
I too replaced a V10 with this 6.0 & have NOT once regretted it

*Hey did u use any Fuel Treatment to keep her from gelling up

I got caught by the cold and ignorance when it comes to the additives/treatment.
2) Thought that gelling wasn't an issue unless it was extremely cold for long periods.

All the Time I see guys on here say
"God my Truck is Great I started it up this Morning it was 0*f and the Block Heater WAS NOT Plugged in"
Wow what an Accomplishment
Watch those guys just keep a Mental Note they will have HPO Problems down the road
Your Fuel supplier SUCKS I assume that why it gelled
Here is a Cheap place to get filters you can Use Racor filters Lots cheaper
Home - Diesel Filters,Additives, brake rotors, and brake pads for Chevy, Dodge and Ford Diesel Trucks
Ed will probably be the cheapest if Money tight don't get the Atlas 40 you can always do it down the road
The Dealer will be most expensive unless your buddey gets some great Deal most of us know how to get Employee Pricing on Ford Parts though
But I suppose your buddy could get a Good deal on a FICM Half shell but IDK if that's the best way to go IDK it is if that's the only Problem the Power side but there is a Driver side

I asked the question about quality of the filters. And when told to only use motorcraft filters, I asked why.... I was quickly shown the reason.

My buddy is a mechanic and he gets the parts at cost. Which is usually around half, give or take.
I don't want to do the half shell thing. If I'm replacing the part, I want it matched up.
I'm probably going to go with Ed's, just because of the warranty. Kind of hard to beat that ultimate....If it fails once two and a half years later, it pays for it's self.
In the end, I did go with the Ultra with the Atlas 40.
Come to find out that I fried my FICM, or at least heavily damaged it when I gelled up. How? By running my batteries dead cranking it over and over again.
Yup! For those of you that didn't know that, if the voltage of the batteries falls too far down ( less than 13.2 means new FICM for you!
) then it generates a lot of heat and the FICM goes fizzle! So as soon as I can, I'll also be replacing my alternator with a HO version as well. I learned quite a bit from Ed, and he definitely earned my business!
