My dash in my '92 F-350 creaks and pops over all the bumps, I have tightend the bolts on top nd the one behind passenger kick panel. Is there anymore I can tighten or a fix for this? It's annoying as hell.
Thanks
I have read in this forum that it is common for a plastic mount to break under the dash on the passenger side, especially if the truck has seen rough roads or no-roads. You should be able to search the forum for a description of this. I had a popping sound that was annoying me to death and it turned out to be the xlt trim piece that snaps to the front of the dash. All but two of the clips were broke.
If that little plastic bracket is broken down by the glove box you can get a piece of 1 in or 1.5 inch angle iron that's about 7 inches long and pick the dash up and self tap the the angle to the side
I'm fixin' to pull my dash again to repair some rust, and if there is a plastic bracket in there that is known to break, I'll fab up a new one from steel when I put it back together.
I had my dash out before, but didn't really pay attention to brackets... just bolted everything back up the way it was.
Even with the bolts tight my dash also rattled and squeaked over bumps. I pulled the skin and found that one of the mounts from the skin to the ducting was broken. The screw was tight but only from holding the broken plastic to the skin.
I rebuild this mount with ABS scraps and MEK.
Also what can happen is the dash will squeak around the screw holes. If I had to do it over again I would cut out felt tape and put it under all mounting points so the skin won't squeak on the ducting underneath.
Also my dash skin still squeaks during cold weather on the defrost ducting by the windshield. I would do this TSB if I had the dash out again.
You can also do this one with the dash still installed.
