Dash Problems

Has anyone had any issues with their dash being loose ? I just bought a 1989 F350 with a wrecker body on it and the truck is in fairly decent shape. I have some minor repairs I need to do and have done quite a few already. I just noticed that all the bolt holes across the dash , by the windshield , are broken out and the dash is loose. Is this a common problem with these 1987-1991 trucks ? if anyone has experienced this , please tell me what fix is. I looked at a complete dash on ebay and it really doesn't look that heavy , so I don't understand why it would be braking off the fire wall witch is what it looks like to me. I know Dodge had a problem with their dashes drying out and cracking all to hell , but I never seen a Ford do this. One forum said there is bolts going thru the fire wall but I'll be dam if I could find any. The only bolts I see is 4-5 across the top and I see 1 on the bottom by the heater box. I was going to see if maybe they were loose and try tightening them. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like there may be something structurally wrong with the dash on the underside if it is loose and the holes are broken out. I'm not as familiar with the 87-91 trucks, but on the 92-96 trucks the passenger side has a plastic dash frame support piece that breaks easily. There should be several more bolts on the under side holding the dash to the fire wall. The dash can be kind of heavy with the instrument cluster and air control cluster bolted to it plus all the stuff people put in a glove box and carry around. All of this over many years combined with UV rays wearing away at the plastic can cause the dash to fail. If you want to replace the upper dash cover, LMC truck sells new ones for $140 or you can check eBay.

Fixed it, I got me a 1 inch piece of steel, cut it in half to make 2 18in pieces. Cut it long ways to make it fit the contour of the dash, drilled a hole at each end and put one on each side of the dash, worked perfect. Dash is tighter then new.
