EFI Coil question

Does anyone know, is there any drawback or limiting factors that would stop someone from converting to a standard style coil like the one in the link:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/msd-8203/overview/

The square style coil is kind of a bitch to mount on the edelbrock monifold. Aftermarket Valve covers are also making it rather dificult. I welded together a larger foot print to mount it to the 2 forward bolts on the upper plenum but it really is ugly as hell. If a coil is a coil is a coil, I think I would rather convert to a cylinder style one for easier mounting.

What ignition are you running? A coil is not a coil. Are you running the stock Ford system(TFI or Duraspark II) or a aftermarket system like MSD or Mallory.

What Franklin said ^. What ignition system are you running?

IIRC If you're running Duraspark the primary resistance of the coil should be 1.4 ohms, and since the primary resistance of the coil you posted is 0.8 you'd need to run an extra resistor what that particular coil.

Also, the instructions for that coil recommends the coil be mounted vertically, not horizontally.

These canister coils are oil filled and I just replaced one that was leaking...

its a 1990 I believe its TFI. As far as mounting. I was just going to move it to the fire wall.

I do appreciate the input gents, think I found my solution. I had to swap to a sanden style AC compressor to run the march pulleys. I had to replace the compressor anyhow because it was ceased. BC Broncos
