05 XLT Super Cab 5.4. I was wiring up some aux lighting to an upfitter and trying to do the high idle mod to another upfitter. Everything seemed fine. I went on a short drive, but after putting the truck away I hit the driver's side lock button and nothing happened. I started the truck and tried it. After that I checked the fuse, which I believe is a 30 amp cartridge fuse. Nothing wrong there. It had continuity. Then I disconnected the battery for a few seconds. That did not solve the issue either. I tried the passenger door which worked when I hit lock! So the dtover's side is nothing, and the passenger side only locks the doors, which it controls both.
What's my issue?! Did I screw something up? Has anyone else seen this? I do not have the high idle hooked up completely. I wasn't sure where to get a constant 12 volts. Also, my truck has no keyless entry.
Any help you can provide would be greatly greatly appreciated.
I have the 06 diagram for you.
The silly thing formatted it sideways but you should be able to fix that easy.
You should see 3 pages. If for some reason you have a problem let me know.
I took the truck for a drive to see if that would make a difference. It didn't and I didn't notice anything else out of order, but the doors do lock after I start the truck. They do not unlock when I turned it off.
I don't think I know what that is or how it could help me. I don't really know where to start to troubleshoot this. I would guess its a switch problem, except the truck will lock the doors on its own but not unlock them. In kind of confused and worried I did something when I pulled the fuse block out. I've done it plenty of times before and never had an issue.
The computer sends the lock signal.
Most likely you have a bad switch. Is this two or four full sized doors?
If it's 2 or the 2 1/2 Door Extended cab. Have a look at the door switch on both
sides. I don't know for sure but with the Ranger they used the same switch on
both sides and you could get away with swapping them. It's worth a try.
Also while in there have a look at the plugs and make sure they are not having
problems like a contact falling out of place or any chafing of the wire.
The pinpoint testing you do with a DMM/VOM (Digital Multi Meter / Volt Ohm Meter.)
The testing are in steps like. Do this. If Yes then do X, if No then do Y.
I do have a multimeter, but I think I will first pull the fuseblock again and make sure everything looks okay there. I tried to get 12 volts off a random wire on the back of the fuseblock with a vampire clip, but I was unsuccessful. I will try to pry that off, because it bugs me that it's there. It looks like it's pretty easy to get at those switches. I saw on a YouTube video that the piece the switches at e mounted in just lifts off, so I will try the switch switcheroo before I get my meter out!
