May I offer a suggestion? Look at the newer trucks today, they all have a triangle piece that fits in the leading edge of the door with a mirror on it. Can one work a triangle filler down there, replace the vent window, take care of the hinge, AND have something there that is useable for backing the darn truck?
That is something that has been kicking around in my dust bin for a while.

Kinda like the guy with the 66 did in the link on post #21?
To be honest, I am thinking the complete vent window area. If I may, should one use this whole area, one could install a modern mirror, that our trucks need very badly, and you don't have to reinvent the wheel.
There have been hours upon hours devoted to this very issue of a one piece window, and there still isn't an easy answer. It is a noble challenge indeed, but this could be an alternative.
Ford started using this around 2000, a much different slant but my 06 has a good example.
Sorry guys. Unfortunately it is going to be a slow affair for the next couple of months. My boys started baseball and my side business has exploded. That is what pays for my sickness ha ha. So it may be a while. I did go buy another short bed today. Found one cheap that had a good bed on it. The inside of the bed was trash, but the sides were dang near perfect. I had to fab the inside of the bed anyway, so it really didn't matter.

Just a thought.

Hey John, I've heard a few people complain about the outside mirroes on the "Slicks", but for the life of me I can't understand why. My mirrors are original, perfectly adjusted for me and I've never had an issue. I see clearly, my vent windows don't get in the way.
On my 69 I had the small door mounted mirrors with no problems either.
What kind of problems do you have?
Does anyone else have problems with the original style mirrors?

Me too. These mini mirrors are worthless in Phoenix traffic. Blind spots on both sides and I have to turn my head and look before merging. These days if you turn your head for a split second; some idiot cuts in front of you or nails their brakes. I however like the looks of these mirrors.

Oh and let me add another reason why, I don't like them. I don't remember how many times
but at least 1/2 a dozen when coming out from under my truck and hit my head or forehead that broke the skin and left some type of battle scares.
This was my main reason for removing them as, I don't heal as fast as.
I once did when younger. Then my doc at the VA said, I should be taking an 81mg baby Aspirin to help keep my blood thinned. Yeah right, the down side is you bleed longer then normal when you break the skin. Plus having type ll diabetes. And being older you end up with damn bruises all over your arms & hands when you bump yourself very light against something hard.

The larger mirrors would be easier to hit with your head! LOL! Don't ask how I know.
I found that with my last f100 I had as a daily driver I actually never used the mirrors. I just turned my head and was probably more aware of my surroundings. I am 99% sure I am going to not have any mirrors on my current build.

Don't come to cailf as you'll get nailed by the CHP must have at least one.
If your not towing & if towing must have have L & R outside mirrors and be able to see 300ft.behind you from each mirror ..
