If you're studded you can remove the stud nuts one at a time but if they're TTY bolts use the tool. The alternative might be a ruined camshaft and you know what kind of nightmare that is.
I would be concerned about WHY you are getting the popping. The # 8 cylinder is usually the first one on a 6.0 to collect anything that goes through the intake. Before you start taking things apart, the most likely cause in a 6.0 would be a failed lifter. To find out, you can usually drain the oil and run a magnet through it to see if there is a bunch of metal in it. The engine will usually stop running when you lose a lifter because the debris goes through the LPOP and you lose oil pressure to the HPOP but you may have caught it real early so that's where I'd start. If no debris, inspect the pushrods to see if any are bent. If they are not bent, then you may have a damaged valve. Again, the big question is why...Good luck!
Yea without having it apart its kind of a guessing game what is wrong with it. I would pull the valve covers and check the rockers and bridges. Might be a broken rocker or the plastic clip may of broken. Need to get it fixed before your popping noise stops permanently.
If any of the plastic clips are broken or missing, that is not the problem and don't worry about replacing them. Their only purpose is to hold the rocker arms during assembly.
