So ive been scouring the internet and came across brackets for disc brake conversion for a 10.25 using GM calipers but seems for only SRW axles or 17" wheels. Is there such an item out there for 16" drw?
Not for hauling or towing but stopping. Lol had to. But serious its a dump and disc is much easier to maintain nothing but a preferance. At the stupid easy and low price for the srw was hopeing for a drw setup. $50 brackets, calipers and rotors plus my 20% off employee discount at parts store. Who wouldnt want discs in the back at that kinda deal
I would grab some calipers, brackets and rotors off a 1t ford and play with em (better than the chevies, dual piston instead of single, and will work better with your current master) All you have to do is fab some mounts for the brackets and away you go. Not sure if they will fit under the wheel however, you might look at grabbing brake stuff off a dually front. Other than that, i would probably recommend hydroboost.
Red you wouldnt happen to know.if its the same bolt pattern for he wheels would you. Well i guess what really matters is will my 16 clear the caliper. Was the newer 19" wheels? Or was that just an option. What seems to be my problem is the 16 wheel. A 17 would work with the brackets from ruffstuffspecialties.
Do DRW applications come with disc's nowadays? I was under the impression for the amount of rolling weight and brake force needed that drums in the rear was the only way to go to keep brakes under the truck with any sort of real load (e.g tractor trailers). I would think going to discs on the rear would actually decrease the amount of braking available due to the large surface area of the shoes and drums.
Here is a bolt on kit for DRW. Gets a bit pricey after you buy the El Dorado e-brake calipers and all the lines, hoses etc., but I am with you 100% on drum brakes being a PITA. I just hate them. I think I will be converting my SRW Sterling to disc using parts from these guys...
