I hate the seatbelt minder but refuse to turn it off because if I did I might be more reluctant to put it on. I know better than to not wear it and am in the habit of it but I usually do it as I am driving away from the house and the chiming pisses me off. Also the Excursion is bad for rollovers and everyone in here is wrong somehow rabble rabble rabble.
Same here. My wife watched a documentary on washed up "punk rock" stars a few weeks ago... if I remember correctly it was the Pennywise singer who had cut his seatbelt in his vehicle so it was about 3 feet long... he would lay it across his chest so it looked like he was wearing it but it didn't actually have a buckle... stupidest thing I've ever seen.
Seatbelts are much more important in the excursion, especially with leather seats. They keep my wife and i from sluding off the seat in turns.. why no side bolsters?

Slow down while turning and stop putting Armorall on the seats.
The Excursion was never designed nor tested to the standards that more modern, lighter duty SUVs are. Not to start a debate, but compare rollover photos of Expeditions and Excursions next time you get the chance, the difference is staggering.
Exactly, they were exempted from most tests due to the GVWR( GVWR 8,900 lb (4,000 kg) - gasoline V10 engine and 9,200 lb (4,200 kg) - any diesel engine) where the cutoff for most tests was 8500lbs for a "passenger vehicle/light truck"
That being said, they did test at least 3, 1 of which is still on site. At least they used one of each color, red/tan/blue.
There is no question what can possible happen with you take a vehicle where the upper 1/3 is windows, and weights 8K lbs, and toss it onto the roof, the pillars can only hold but so much.

Bingo, only a limited number of tests are ever done with any rotation factored in. Even when they do the corner to corner test, the results are skewed, as the "sled" they are attached to, does not allow the vehicles to spin away from each other after impact, but keeps driving them in a straight line.
You can turn the seat belt minder off? How do you do that? I hate that thing in my 04!
Check in the owner's manual for the procedure. It involves turning the key on and off several times, buckling and unbuckling the seat belt, turn around 3 times and bow towards Dearborn and voila, no more chime, just the pesky red light. I turned it off because it annoyed me when maneuvering the trailer in a campground where I may be in and out a couple times and don't use the seatbelt for driving at 1 MPH.
I'll see if I can find it on here, I know I have seen it somewhere..........

Yep, best thing I did was turn off the chime. I wear my seatbelt all the time. the only time I don`t is when I`m rolling through the campground at 5mph!
