Winter Camping

So we went camping this past week. Near the MD/PA line. Place call barbor RV. Right on the water.

first night was 10deg. Then the following day was about 20 something follow by that nor'easter.

So we had some snow as well.

All in all it was a good time. 5th is setup for cold weather camping and worked well.

Very cool, literally.

I love seeing the pictures. You have made it one notch higher in my book, hanging out in that weather.

Yeah,

Last time I did that type of trip was with Uncle Sam. Course the accommodations were much more Spartan.

With a couple space heaters and the fireplace the furnace did not even come on during the day. We were stitting at about 75F inside.

Why would anyone go camping in the winter? Leave a nice warm house. Oh wait, now I remember. Something we just have to do. Seemed like a great thing at the time. Bear hunting in the George Washington National Forest, sleeping in a tent, snow blowing in my face during the night. Fun times, much younger.
And then, much later in the motorhomes and truck campers, a bit more comfort. Thanks for the pictures. Brings back memories

It really was a nice time to get away. It was not so hard to deal with since I have the heated belly and radiant floors.

Are we still talking about the RV?

Well on the bright side, you probably had your choice of fishing spots...

You guys and your campers... No matter how you cut it, that is luxury. A bit of snow in a camper is nothing.

Heres a couple shots from my last winter camping outing towards the end of January:

Fun times!

KC8QVO, That is hardcore. I never did the tent camping thing in Winter. My uncle did one time just for fun of it. He said it was comfortable if you had the right mattress and bag. I see you are going with the hammock set up.

I could not do the Winter camping thing since my trailer is currently under snow plus when I stopped by the other day to check on it, The storage side used the area for snow storage. There is a large pile in front of the trailers in my section. As I have been saying, Spring can not come fast enough in some regards. I would like to get the family out for a winter weekend though. Maybe when the trailer is stored at our place instead off site. Then the trailer could be rewinterized easier since it would be on site vs off.

1980 scamper slide in truck camper. We've taken it out 2-3 times in winter. Coldest we've seen is about 10-15 F. We just use straight RV antifreeze to flush, and keep a 5 gallon jug of fresh water for washing and drinking. The furnace has to run pretty near 24/7 to keep it above freezing since it has no real insulation, and cheap single pane windows. Still when you're out camping on Christmas day 1/2 a mile from an all natural hotsprings life nice.

Man, I don't know. We have done it several times over the years, but I guess I am just getting old. I used to ask folks if they winter camped and the standard reply was "sure, but not where it is cold!"
