The A/C pump pully is going out on my 91 Bronco with a 302. I am wondering if there is a bracket out there that will allow me to mount an additional alternator instead of replacing the pump? I don't think i will ever use the A/C in this thing and i could benifit from an additional alternator.
Out of curiosity what kind of electrical load would you be putting on a single alternator that an aftermarket high amperage unit could not handle?
Not that it really matters but high amp alternators are fairly easy to come by. I have not attempted the mod you are asking about but if you decide to pursue it, let us know how it works. Could be nice to have a seperate alt. for trailer power maybe.
I am planning on adding a light bar on the top with atleast 6 lights, an air compressor behind the rear seat, CB Radio, possibly 2 lights on the rear bumper, and atleast one winch.
Did any bronco's come without A/C? maybe there is a bracket with a small pully i could put in place instead of replacing the A/C pump.
I do believe that a 130A 3G alternator and duel batterys with isolation diods will do the trick.
I have seen people do duel alternators and there more trouble than there worth.
Try Powermaster at http://www.powermastermotorsports.com/ I currently have their 200A alternator and starter motor installed on my rig. I installed the 200A for the very reason of adding a winch, more lights, and other electronc goodies. The starter motor probably has more torque than all the those rice rockets out on the road these days.
