Front axle Questions
I have a 79 F-250 4x4 and it has the Dana 44 9f front axle. This is the second 79 I have owned and they both have had the same problem. I end up breaking an axle every time I go out wheeling. I currently have 38in swampers and I have another broken axle. I am wondering if I should upgrade to a Dana 60, or I saw these chrome-moly axles for the 44 that said they were stronger than the stock 60 axles. Any help is greatly appreciated.
The 38's on that 44 is pushing it. I don't think it is much different than the half ton 44 besides the 8 lugs. You could try the stronger chromoly axles and see how they work for you. It may cost as much or may be a little cheaper than trying to find a good Dana 60 to use.

Front axle Questions
Thanks Boss. I thought the same thing about the 44. I would like to put a 60 in the front but finding one here in california is like finding a needle in a haystack and when you do find one they want like 1500 for a bare bones axle and housing.
I'm Running 35-14.50 TSL boggers I snapped axles like a tooth pick. I replaced my Axles With warn Axles I haven't had any trouble since. They seem to Hold u-joints better too. If you have the LD D44 it has the same Axles as a 1/2. Just get the warn D44 axles For the 73-79 F150/ 78/79 broncos. The Axles cost me $199 and are covered unless u-joint failer
