Starter bolt help

This has been a rough few weeks. 2 batteries, alt., belt tensioner, hpop o-rings, and starter. While installing my newly rebuilt starter the bottom bolt stripped out.

A couple years ago I had the loose bolt problem but it's been good since. Is a helicoil an ok fix or is there something better?

A helicoil is fine, but if you don't already have the tools for them, it can cost you up to $60 or so by the time it's all over.

Or you can pull the transmission and flywheel to change the rear cover.

What are you doing slumming it down in the 7.3 section? Must be a slow week in the problem motor section for you to comment on a starter bolt in a 7.3

Glad to see your input down here either way.

Thanks. the local ford dealership needs the last 8 digits of my vin to sell me two bolts.

I have a denso starter so does that change anything on the length?

I am not sure about that.I have the Ford gear reduction three bolt starter.
Pull one of yours out and measure the length you need.
I bought the bolts at a local parts store myself.

I have a helicoil set from when I stripped a starter bolt hole as well. I'll double check it when I get home to make sure I still have everything. I'd be willing to let you use it, just ship it back when you are done. We've all had rough weeks. Shoot me a PM if interested.

This is what makes this place great. Thank you very much for the offer, but I already picked a kit up on the way home. Figured it's something I should have around.

I installed a new "real" Denso starter and used the same OEM bolts. Should be fine unless you get some knock-off Denso style.
