I grew up in Wyoming and I prefer the mountains, snow, and rain any day over the same "hot and sunny" stuff we get here. Change of seasons would be nice but we have spring and summer and that's about it. Even when it gets "cold" here during the winter it is in the 50-60's. Oh well, looking forward to some day moving out of here and heading North to have some cooler temps and a real winter
Been there and done that. As a matter of fact, my first open waters back in 1984 where under the ice in Wyoming. See if I can find a pic....That's back when I had hair Took my initial training in Ft Collins and this photo was taken in March of 85' if I recall. That's back in the good old days of a single reg and a 7mil farmer john....
I was the dive unit leader for the San Diego Sheriff's Dive Unit until I recently retired.
Crazy to hear the weather differences around the country. I am currently in ND and all we have here is cold. I don't remember above 10 degrees.
For all those with the snow, be glad you have the truck you do, it will more than handle it. I was living in Rapid City, SD back in October when the blizzard that dropped 2+ feet of snow came through and killed all those cattle. My truck was only kept off the road for about 14 hours, while I slept and while I shoveled, and I'm pretty well stock!
Quite a bit different than the Buick I used to drive to school........
Freezing rain is bad, but Black Ice is the baddest round in the winter chamber. Pray you don't get that down there, every road would be a crash derby.
Until Saturday, we had a season total of 2" of snow, with the mountains having barely enough to ski at 4,000 feet. The West needs snow in the mountains for summer water to irrigate crops. The snow is finally getting it on up there, but we're sweatin' bullets as to how much needs to fall in what remains of the snow season to supply irrigation water.
Well, I have to be okay with snow and moisture here. That equates to a wetter spring and summer, less fire danger.
But, picked a lousy week to order parts, a couple of shipments sitting in Georgia and Ill. And we are looking at a great weekend to work on truck
We (Birmingham and South Birmingham area) got about 2 inches of accumulation late yesterday. No real ice issues except this morning on a few overpasses, one of which hosted my oldest son's 180° spinout this morning, but without incident - aside from a quick jump in heart rate, blood pressure, and an almost spontaneous loss of bodily control.
Virtually everyone left our office early yesterday afternoon to avoid any repeat issues from two weeks ago. This morning, at 8:30AM, there was still virtually no traffic on the roads, but I expect that will be changing very quickly as it continues to warm up.
It has snowed off-and-on for three days now (Feb 11-12-13). I have gone outside once and that was to get the news paper 2/12. No paper today-i understand so i am ok with that.
With my job shut down by weather, i will stay in to remain safe.
In CT where I am right now, we've gotten between 4 and 5 inches in the last HOUR. It should be a real hoot after this changes to sleet, then rain, back to sleet and snow then freezes tonight. With the exception of dog "emergencies", I think I'll stay inside for the day.
