I had my 1979 f 150 4wd in the shop for some work and was informed that I need a drag link and axle track bushings. Stabilizing bar bushings as well@ a little over 700$
I purchased a Haynes manual with the idea of making the repairs myself and it said "let a professional do these repairs".
I have basic hand tools and a driveway, do you folks agree with Haynes?
Do it yourself and save tons of money... it's time to get yer hands a little dirty. If you get stuck we're here to help.
Find a level place to do the work when replacing the track bar bushings because the track bar centers the axle under the truck. If the truck is tilted, it'll go "boing!" and get cattywampus when the bolt is removed. Personally, I use a ratchet strap to hold the frame steady or to pull the frame over so the bolt can be reinserted.
Hit up the local FTE WA state chapter for some "live action" help, you might get a few helping and advising hands. And a few tools to boot, buy pizza and have a wrench fest.
Just have all you need parts wise, all ready on hand.
What are "axle track bushings"...nothing, you probably need drag link and trac bar bushings.
Trac bar is notorious to having the mount bushing go bad and the mount holes wallered out a bit. Radius arms need a big socket and a cheater pipe to put on that 3/4 or 1" breaker bar.
Air tools make the world rotate better for you, and help get the job done faster.
Thanks for the info guys, I will give it a go, I plan to go at it one job at a time. I plan to start with stabilizer bushings then drag link. If those are a success then the track bushings.

Drag Link is easy one you get joints separated using press or pickle fork. No realignment needed on a 78/79 F150 as tie rod remains.
Track Bar bushings are easy, you can get them in a kit with 14 pieces that include C bushings and radius arm bushings as well, or just the 6 piece track bar bushing kit (Moog has it in polyurethane, each bushing is two parts and there's a steel sleeve at each end). Got the polyurethane, they last and last.
