Actually, the cylinder does not need to be at top dead center for the valves to be closed. Only the intake would be closed. If you take the rockers off, the springs will close the valves no matter where the piston is.
Ok. Valve spring replaced. I also pulled the distributo to make sure it wasnt messed up. It was fine but i firgot to mark it. So i redropped it with the #1 cylinder at 10° btdc. Lined the #1 spark plug wire with the rotor and the truck started right up. But now she back fires through the carb on occasion and has lost a lot of power.
Yea i figured it was the timing. My timing light broke during a house move. I went and got one today and it was firing right at the atc mark. So i put it at 12° btc. Runs like a champ now. Thx for all the help.
