2000 6.8L V10 - Running Hot

I changed the water pump, Upper radiator hose and thermo stat cause they said it was running how. I took it for a drive and compared the readings on that truck to my truck which is a v10 but a F350 not a F250. The readings between both trucks are the same. Checked clutch fan and it seems to be ok.

Customer used truck and said the coolant was coming out of the reservoir tank and it ran hot again.

I checked it out. If I grab the throttle cable and yank it about a 1/4 to 1/2 throttle area and let go, the coolant level at the minimum mark drops down an inch or two and the rises about 4-5 inches up. After doing that a few times it came up and started coming out of the top of the bottle. it would drop down and come back up and over flow and few times by its self with out reving it.

any suggestions on were to start. The water pump did look like it was damaged by rust and bad pitting from them using straight water or not servicing the cooling system for quite some time.

suggestions on what to do, were to start?

Check the cap on the reservoir, check coolant for cumbustion gases. Check cooling system psi, verify actual temp readings through obd port. Guessing you flushed the cooling system before adding new coolant? Did you make sure to get all the air out of the system.

Did you actually bleed the system prior to sending it back out? Check out the excursion forum tech folder for a method on this as well.

Did you use a motorcraft thermostat? If not I'd say that's probably the issue. There have been quite a few issues with aftermarket T stats and coolant bottle caps. Make sure the cap holds the correct pressure first then change the stat.

air is in the sytem.. and the pressure of the coolant isnt letting it rise.. there is a very specific way to bleed those sytmes and is highly recomended when doing so.. If not this is the result.. poor cooling and overflow.. just take your time and do the right way and it wont be back in.. i did mine the fast way to and learned the hard way..
